Before you leave:

  • Check the security status of your destination (www.safetravel.govt.nz)

  • Leave a copy of your itinerary, contact details and other important documents with a family member or friend in case of emergency

  • Check with your doctor or travel agent whether you need any vaccinations for countries you are visiting

  • Don’t pack money or valuables in your suitcase, in case it goes missing.

When travelling:

  • Use travellers cheques, EFTPOS and credit cards, rather than carry a lot of cash

  • Carry money and important documents in a money belt

  • If you're staying in a hotel or hostel, use their security box to store your valuables

  • Label your luggage clearly

  • Never leave your bags unattended in a public area

  • Keep your insurance details with you at all times in case you require emergency medical assistance.
