Personal Insurance

1. Jewellery

Claws, catches, hooks, settings etc should be checked every two years to prevent stones from falling out.

Valuations should be obtained at least every two years to ensure that jewellery is insured for the correct amount.

2. Fireplaces

Ensure that your chimney is cleaned annually.

Ash from fire places should be kept in a metallic bucket or container and placed well away from your house until they have cooled.

3. Home

Don't leave pots on stoves unattended.

Leave keys in deadlocks overnight so that you can easily open doors in an emergency such as a fire.

Keep your policy number handy and always have a pen and paper in your car so that you can write things down in the event of an accident.

4. Vehicle

If you make any modifications to your vehicle don't forget to tell your insurer.

5. On the move

When moving from one home to another, your contents policy can be extended to provide cover on your contents whilst they are in transit.  Often the premium charged by NZI is less than the premium charged by the moving company to insure your contents.

If you need professional advice about your personal insurance needs, contact your broker.
