Parliament passed legislation to create the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA) — a stand-alone department to enable an effective, timely and co-ordinated rebuilding and recovery effort.

The scale of the disaster in Canterbury means the recovery will require integrated decision making across a range of organisations with CERA providing the necessary leadership and coordination of these efforts. CERA will report to Hon. Gerry Brownlee, the Minister for Canterbury Earthquake Recovery, who will be responsible for coordinating the planning, spending, and actual rebuilding work needed for the recovery.

We’re looking forward to working closely with CERA as we recommence our work programme in the west, northwest and rural Canterbury, and as we move into other areas at such time as assessments have been made.
